A Conversation with the Koobs

Chris and Elizabeth share how they got started with Primerica and what their business has allowed them to do for their family, friends and community."

Why did you decide that Primerica was the right place for you?
"I was introduced to Primerica in 1983 when I was 21 years old.  I had many goals and dreams that I wanted to accomplish.  One of those goals was to work independently.  I wanted to create my own success.  My plan up until 1983 was to complete my degree in engineering.  As an engineer I felt I would have some independence and earn a good salary.  As I learned more about independence, financial freedom and life I realized that the path of engineering was not going to provide me enough income for the life I had envisioned for myself.  After learning what Primerica can do for consumers and seeing the credibility of the company, I was convinced that with hard work and dedication Primerica was the vehicle that could take me to my goals and dreams."

How does Primerica allow you to live a life of freedom?
"Working with Primerica has given Elizabeth and me a level of personal and financial freedom that can not be replaced … a life that most people can only dream about. We have been able to build a business together and create a greater bond of partnership, which has been an incredible support for our marriage.  If Elizabeth would have continued her nursing career while I went out into the world as an engineer I truly believe we would not have connected in the way we have by pursuing the same goals and building a business together. Now we are able to commit to our family the time and resources that are necessary to raise our children together with the core values we believe in. On a daily basis, we choose when we need to work and when it is okay not to work. We also get to choose when and for how long our family needs to go on vacation to escape from life’s everyday challenges.  This freedom keeps our whole family energized and really fulfilled in our everyday lives."

What are some of the things you have been able to do for your family or community because of the financial independence you have with Primerica?
"Working hard with Primerica for all of these years has afforded Elizabeth and I so many gifts. For us, financial independence is more than a phrase to say we have enough money to pay our bills.  Instead, financial independence is the way of life that has given us the ability to own beautiful homes, travel the world, purchase the vehicles that we want and choose from the best private schools for our children all without ever worrying about where to find the money to do it."
"Most important of all, financial independence has allowed us to embrace our true spirit of giving. Over the past 15 years we have assisted family members when buying their first homes. We have funded education scholarships for inner-city kids labeled ‘challenged.’ The scholarships allowed them to attend private schools to get the special attention they need.  Our financial freedom has also allowed us to assist local families with medical care costs, we were able to build additional community soccer fields for children when our community needed them and we were able to send a co-worker’s entire family, including his ailing mother, on a dream vacation before she passed on. Lastly, and what we are most proud of is that we have been able to commit upwards of $500,000 to feed the hungry children in our community."

When did you realize that Primerica was the right place where you could make your dreams come true?
"I knew early on that I couldn’t be successful unless I began to develop my people skills. I set a plan in motion to turn my weaknesses to strengths but I couldn’t do it alone.  The Primerica team that recruited me wrapped their arms around me. They mentored me both personally and professionally.  As a result I have grown to be a confident, outgoing businessperson. Through leveraging my determination, the support my mentors and the infrastructure of Primerica, I began to master the skills that I needed to be successful in this business.  At that point in my life I knew that Primerica was the company that could make my career dreams come true. More importantly, it became the place where I could help and guide many others accomplish their dreams. I continue to leverage those early skills attained from my mentors to support all of the amazing men and women on my Primerica team today."

Describe what it is like being a part of a company like Primerica.
"When we are working with the team we have built we are working with our best friends.  From the beginning we knew that we had to foster an environment that was exciting and supportive to increase the potential for success of our team members. Through creating such an environment, we have been able to develop more than a team of successful Primerica representatives … we have been able to create an extended family."

What is your next goal?
"Elizabeth and I have personally benefited so much from teaching, supporting and mentoring our team and others in the community over the years that we would like to focus on expanding our mentoring network."
